What year should my child start school?
Every parent or carer will want to know when their child needs to start school. When a child actually starts is determined by their date of birth and the cut off dates set by the State or Territory government where the child will attend school.

In Queensland, Prep is the first year of school and provides the foundation for your child's education. It is compulsory for Queensland children to undertake Prep prior to Year 1.
Children must be 5 by 30 June in the year they enrol.
Use the online calculator to see when your child can start Prep. Simply select your child's month and year of birth.

A child is considered to be of compulsory school age until they turn 16, or they complete Year 10 (whichever comes first).
